So you know Couture... EDWIN D'angelou smacks down.

How could I forget this memorable designer? I got to experience first hand the exqusite collection of Mr. D'Angelou collection during Mercedes Benz fashion week. I have to say such a gifted fashion designer. What I love about couture is the imagination that it brings, the free range of creativity expressed artistically, and asthetically pleasing for the fashionable eye. His collection seems to play off this ever growing trend of bring black and white black, and accentauting this phantom of the opera feel. (you can see more in my fashion week documentary in Feb. post.) I dont know how long this guy has been around, but i'm sure we will be seeing more of him in the near future.

Rain, Sleet, or Snow... cant nobody keep me away !!

IT felt sooo good to be on familiar territory again, the air, the sights, the sounds of new york. Most importantly as a style maven, embracing my yearly fix (to which i think i'm becoming a pro at... thanks willie dean :) ) is getting my kicks off at New Yorks Mercedes Benz Fashion week!
I have to admit i was a little worried that the snow would pinch my plans, but anyone who knows the jenius, knows that she is a "go-getter", and with elbow grease, prayer, and bad ass pair of fishnets, snow couldnt keep me away from the most wonderful time of the year (and it aint christmas!). Make sure you check out my first FASHION DOCUMENTARY of the whole experience!!! until next time ciao!

Lily of the Valley: THE REAL MCCOY...

It's one thing to be fabulous, talented, or maybe gorgeous... but rarely do we see a REAL triple threat. A true vixen that is Beauty and Brains and a Badass when it comes to spinning plastic on turntables... Her name is DJ Tyger Lily, and yes such creatures of demure sophistication exsist! she is humble, pleasent, and fashionable! I had the oppurtunity of rubbing elbows with her this year in New York, and still till this day, the wise words that she shared with me echo in my ears on a daily basis. We were walking down east village to antique shops and discussing the modeling industry and she says " i mean i'm genetically engineered to do what i do, if you have to stick a finger down your throat to be skinny, then modeling is not for you..." Genetically Engineered? I love it! and that converstation has been my constant fuel in my most pleasurable and discouraging times!

knowing that what we are good at, because we were created to do it and we do it well! but enought on the mind-enlightnment and back on basking in the glow of miss lily... She is awesome and innovative, she had shared with our group how she planned to mix music videos together... mix music videos? how do you even do that? but she does! I mean to see a sister reppin herself to the fullest, I have been meaning to reach out to her since then to send her some kaima pieces and maybe style her one day, but life happens, so while she is fresh on my mind, i thought i would give her tribute on my blog like i do so many other "greats" that i admire!!!
check out Dj Tyger Lily on all the social connections: myspace, facebook, twitter, etc...
but you can get personal with her on her website:

http://www.djtygerlilly.com

we love DJ Tyger Lily because she reminds us of a new pair of betsey johnson pumps, a trip to fat beats on a spring day, diane von furtenburg wrap dressed drenched in marc jacobs daisy, pop rocks, and the dance floor ;)

Style Profile: ERI WaKIYAMA….Anyi-go-sukhi-dess!

This fashion designer illustrator has got me going… I have always been knoichiwa to Japanese style and I always have thought my others from another mother dressed pretty fly…. Imp digging this Asian persuasion taking over the fashion illustration game in NY!!!!

ERI reminds me of black licorice, eaten by yoko ono, with silver glitter flakes, Jamaican red stripe, MAC Carbon Shadow, with a touch of Yves St Laurent Elle… don’t you just love ERI!!!!

Breaking the Trend:stereotypes, hype, and cigerettes.

We all have seen it, not so skinny guys (and dolls) rocking a pair of uber skinny jeans, wannabe stylistic rope chains, and not to mention those o so horrible big rimmed glasses (strait outta the seventies!)
I often wonder why we give in to trends? What causes the usual sober mind to get pissy drunk behind a tshirt that says "your boyfriend was in me last night." Have we succumb to the big brother of the fashion world too? Don't people realize graphic tees and striped shade sun glasses (c kanye west) are all the designs of a soceity starting to look like one another?
Hey don't get me worng I have always been a girl up and willing to rock some electro blu tights, but at the same time its more of my personality than a fashion statement.
Let's just say for the record there is no judgement here! Shoot, if we could walk around in clothes looking like we stepped out of an M.I.A. Video talking about "jimmy aja" live would b great, but the truth remains we are victims of our own closet vomit! :@

My point is( and I believe eventually I will get there)is trends are like stereotypes. They are like the elephants in the room that no one wants to talk about, but the ammunition needed to point and shoot. Kind of like when someone says all black people are loud, which all aren't but when you walk into a fried chicken and waffle joint at 1 am you might have that perception. That's kind of how I feel with people who all of sudden cut off their hair and grow locs and afros(this pertaining to my people who of another color, and I am black so I can say this!)Because they want to appear "arty" and "neosoul" yet if you ask them anything about Georgia Ann Mudrow or the Lion of judah, they would have no idea what you are talking about. But they are trendy, they are hot, its what's now... Its the hype.
Yeah stereotypes are all hype like "women are ALL emotional", well not all are. I just hope that all people who wear snow boots are not all stupid, but hey I would like to be wrong, but I know not bloody likely... Trends.
What would we do with out them?

Any who the lesson here kiddies stick with what last forever, that classic piece, the longjevity. 15 mins of fame are just that, 15 min. Stereotypes are just indirect judgements and even if they are true we can't hoan people to them. I say stop and the drop hype and be your trueself, cause skinny jeans ainr for everybody...
I'm saying tho.

Ciao :*
