Calling all fashion... I mean Artist!

It seems that often industries seem to overlap. Crossing territories that have yet to be discoverd, yet despite the unconventional mergers, things still seem to work out.

Seemingly,in the world of fashion and the world of art, it becomes a match made in heaven. So, is it any surprise the fashion would begin to embrace more abstract and artistic concepts? Of course your probably like "duh jenius, fashion is art.."But I on the contrary think it is a bleeding thin line between art and fashion emulating art.
I'm looking at the bigger "picture" of fashion painting hommage to art, whether it's Basquiat prints on dress, keith harring printed tunics and bathing suits, to flamboyant displays at both artistic venues (I.e. And art gallery) and the over the top fashion afficinados, hoping to be seen.

Either way, it's a beautiful thing, sure to capture an artist attention!

A Jenius Story: the little you, Represents the REAL you...

Imagination was never an ideal too hard for me to fathom... I was the kid who was wrapped up in RL STINE Goosebumps novels, jump it, ez bake oven, crayola map pencils (or rose art if you lived in the hood),treasure trolls, and etch a sketch. I was infatuated with styrofoam packaging and new shoe boxes, cause I knew after every pair of new shoes, my barbies would be getting renovations and a new room added to my handmade barbie doll house. I would run through the aisles at the fabric store letting my hands glide past each material waiting for my mother to get new lace for her african garb. I made my first magazine in seventh grade with xerox copies of seventeen magazine, my first fragrance ad of my moms avon perfume splashed on paper with my kiddish scrabbled drawing of a couture dress by "karyn j". I rigged everything, if I could make it, I never had to buy it. I was a big dreamer, an artist and stylish! Ill never forget my pink chucks that were my favorite shoe in 4th grade, or the warm feeling I felt with my new pair of mudd jeans... My child me was the catalyst of my jenius me. I mean everyone doesn't come from a peachy keen background, but at least when your kid, your world is so full of ideas, your more forgiving, your more imaginitive, geuine and pure.I wish ppl would look back at how they were as a kid and realize the same dream implanted in you at seven, is your lifes purpose at 29.nothing we do is by mistake, I always dressed more freely than everyone else, always drawing fashion figures since middle school, and always coming out resilient in every trial. If we could all go back to our little you... Which represents the real you!

Love

The Big Bag Theory...

So often I am asked "why do you always carry a big bag?" And intially it would throw me off guard because I have always liked BIG things(I live in Texas for one, and everything is big there, and I love big hair, big jewelry, men who are "big", oops thinking out loud) but anyway, I just naturally believed the more space the better!

The ironic thing is there are many times I would be carrying a bag the size of child with nothing but my cell phone and wallet(and my wallet is a ciggarette case lol). So my whole purpose was big bag equals utility! I can shove my whole life in there and go on about my day, no worries.I'm not really girly girly, so often times I don't even carry a purse.

So check it, has anyone else noticed as skirts are getting shorter, bags are getting bigger?! But how can you not love your almost 2ft miu miu purse?! How can you turn away from your extra fabric Balenciaga, and accentuated louis??? You don't! Even if that hoe is a cutie from the thrift store (and vintage is priceless!)You gotta rock it!
Why? Because big bags :
1. Are conveinent! You can always put a pair of flip flops in there when your feet are literally shaking from wearing heels for 6 hours! (And all my fashionistas know about the leg shake when its time to take those heels off!)
2. You can wear any outfit with a big bag! You can even be naked! How many ads have you see where the chic is naked and all she is sportin is a super fly bag?!
3. To follow that. You can have on something shitty and your big bag will actually make you decent and not get completely bashed! You see celebs do it all the time in the press, look like crap but are rocking a fly elaine turner! I'm just sayin tho!
4.It makes all your girlfriends jealous and envious and want a big bag like yours.
5. It makes gay men jealous and envoius and want a big bag like yours.
6. Someone will give you a compliment on your big bag(everytime you wear it, even if u see that person everyday)
7.Did I mention convenient?
8. Usally bb have more creative and appealing styles!
9. Never go out of style!!!!

Now of course there are cons like everything else, especially when the bb power is for evil not good! Like
1. When you see everyone with the same bb! (2007 fendi hobo was everywherean even the knock offs and that was annoying as hell! Yall know which one I'm talking about! The hobo with the braided handles and horsebit buckle)
2.When people use their bb for stealing especially at stores or even your house.
3 when the strap breaks!!!!! Omg! That is the worst! That is like death!
4. When you get a hole and all your small items like keys get stuck in the lining :(
5. Looking for your keys lol.
6. When you need a small bag like a clutch and all you have is bbs! Ew fustrating!

So you see my friends, we must cherish our overly sized pouchers!for God created heaven and earth and big bags!

Breaking the Trend:stereotypes, hype, and cigerettes.

We all have seen it, not so skinny guys (and dolls) rocking a pair of uber skinny jeans, wannabe stylistic rope chains, and not to mention those o so horrible big rimmed glasses (strait outta the seventies!)
I often wonder why we give in to trends? What causes the usual sober mind to get pissy drunk behind a tshirt that says "your boyfriend was in me last night." Have we succumb to the big brother of the fashion world too? Don't people realize graphic tees and striped shade sun glasses (c kanye west) are all the designs of a soceity starting to look like one another?
Hey don't get me worng I have always been a girl up and willing to rock some electro blu tights, but at the same time its more of my personality than a fashion statement.
Let's just say for the record there is no judgement here! Shoot, if we could walk around in clothes looking like we stepped out of an M.I.A. Video talking about "jimmy aja" live would b great, but the truth remains we are victims of our own closet vomit! :@

My point is( and I believe eventually I will get there)is trends are like stereotypes. They are like the elephants in the room that no one wants to talk about, but the ammunition needed to point and shoot. Kind of like when someone says all black people are loud, which all aren't but when you walk into a fried chicken and waffle joint at 1 am you might have that perception. That's kind of how I feel with people who all of sudden cut off their hair and grow locs and afros(this pertaining to my people who of another color, and I am black so I can say this!)Because they want to appear "arty" and "neosoul" yet if you ask them anything about Georgia Ann Mudrow or the Lion of judah, they would have no idea what you are talking about. But they are trendy, they are hot, its what's now... Its the hype.
Yeah stereotypes are all hype like "women are ALL emotional", well not all are. I just hope that all people who wear snow boots are not all stupid, but hey I would like to be wrong, but I know not bloody likely... Trends.
What would we do with out them?

Any who the lesson here kiddies stick with what last forever, that classic piece, the longjevity. 15 mins of fame are just that, 15 min. Stereotypes are just indirect judgements and even if they are true we can't hoan people to them. I say stop and the drop hype and be your trueself, cause skinny jeans ainr for everybody...
I'm saying tho.

Ciao :*
